Culinary Couple

This is us (above) with our very first Homegrown Tomato!
We started growing some of our own herbs as well. The dill really did well! We had so many tomatoes from that one plant we couldn't eat them all. Sadly however, the same could not be said for out strawberry plants.
"The Baby"

My husband and his "Baby" (a nickle pearl Kitchen Aid professional 600 series stand mixer) on Xmas day 2006.

Welcome to Our Foodie Site!
We hope to be able to share some interesting recipes, foods, reviews and more with you!
We both love food (fairly obvious I think, lol) and love cooking. One of the highlights of our week is the day we go grocery shopping. There is nothing like a nice cut of meat and some brightly colored fresh veggies!! We get really excited when we find a new ingredient to experiment with. On his recent deployment to the Middle East he bought some spices at the local market and I can't wait to try them out!
Both of us have backgrounds in the culinary arts. My husband attended college for culinary studies and has worked in bakeries and restaurants before enlisting in the Navy as a Culinary Specialist. As such he has worked in the main galley, as the pastry chef and Wardroom chef. (See the AWESOME 9 foot replica he made of his first ship below.) He is extremely talented and hopes one day to own a small gourmet deli.

As for myself, I was raised in a restaurant kitchen! I remember doing Garde manger work when I was 8 or sitting on my little stool in the corner stuffing cornish game hens after school because I had small hands. LOL. My father owned a restaurant and catering company for a good portion of my life. He was a chef and a few of my brothers are chefs. After he dicovered that the stress was too much on him he reitred from the restaurant business, only to go into purchasing for our local civic center where his office is 10 steps from the huge kitchen. LOL. Getting away from cooking was going to be an impossible task for me, so I embraced it, and married a chef!
A word about beverages
My husband is a big fan of cooking with beer, so expect to see a good deal of that on here. We also like wine, but are by no means conisours. Our income limits our ability to expand in that area. So if we mention we tried such-and-such wine and we liked it, keep in mind that point of view is restricted by budget! :)
