How Do I Love Beer? Let Me Count the Ways...
I LOVE beer! I don't drink a whole lot of it. Maybe 3 or 4 beers a week unless it's a special occassion. But I do love my beer. I have traveled all over the world and tried many different beers; from Croatia to Canada. I drink some wine or cider here or there, but my one true love is beer. My wife doesn't like beer, she perfers cider so we usually have some of both in the fridge.
This year we went to Epcot Center to attend the
International Wine and Food Festival. Samuel Adams was there giving lectures on beer and the History of Brewing in America. Even though the beer at the tasting was warm it was very informative. Most of it Jennifer already knew though; she is a Budweiser Certified Beermaster. We did learn about one thing that was new to both of us. It's Called Samuel Adams Utopias. It is 25.6% Alcohol and cost $190.00 a bottle. I told Jenn I want one of those instead of Beer of the Month Club for Xmas. Maybe I will get it!
Samuel Adams Utopias
One of my all time favorite beers is Newcastle Brown ale. Lately it has been my beer of choice. The other day while researching this page my wife came across the Doddington Dairy in the UK that makes NCBA ICE CREAM! Oh to be in England in the summer. I have made Killian's beer bread and Woodchuck raspberry cider chicken, however this is something I am going to have to try to make very soon.
You Complete Me...
I mostly drink Import or higher end domestic beers. I can't stand crap beer like Bud and Miller. This section contains a few of my more memorable friends.
Home is Where the Heart is
Until our recent move I was working on my own basement bar. I've always wanted to have my own retreat away from the rest of the house where I can drink a beer, play darts and listen to my records. Even though at the moment I don't have a place to have my bar set up I am still continuing to amass items for it. I collect beer mugs from places I've been around the world or that are from my favorite beer companies. I also collect Breweriana from my favorite companies. So far (thanks to my father-in-law & the girl at Sam's Wine & Spirits) I have a great selection! St. Pauli Girl signage & neon, Killian's signage, dartboard & neon, Yeungling & Harp signage. I've got some inflatables, a mirror and some tap handles... Not to mention all the glasses. I can't wait to get back to building my home away from home in the basement! I wish I had some pictures to share but, at the moment everything for my bar is in storage.
Love Potion #9
For my birthday last year my father-in-law got m the Mr. Beer 2000 Complete Home Brewery. Knowing I love beer and love to make stuff these was a great choice! I'd talked about sort of wanting to try making my own brews and I thank him very much for giving me a chance to!
I have only had a chance to use it once before we moved. My friend Ryan and I mixed up a batch but it never clarified well and according to the booklet it had sat long enough. After questioning the speker at the Sam Adams beer lecture, it would seem we DIDN'T let it sit long enough. I can't wait until I can set it up and try it again. Next time I want to start mixing in fruits.
